High above the clouds you’re always sure of enough snow and sun.
Does one need more to be happy?
Parts of Lower Austria with very gentle landscapes offer perfect terrains for cross country skiers. But even in the most mountainous regions there are fantastic trails. Outstanding in the truest sense of the word is the Wechsel-Semmering-Panorama trail with its breathtaking views.
It’s a very special place for cross country skiers: the whole trail is 90 km long and is situated at heights of 1,000 to 1,400 m above sea level. This guarantees plenty of snow and, most often, clear views to this mountain range itself as well as down to the flatlands leading to Vienna. The whole area has a variable landscape, with trails for cross country skiers in all performance categories.
The Nordic Arena Steyersberger Schwaig (the latter two words referring to the surnames of the owners) offers a training facility for beginners and advanced skiers. Here you can acquaint yourself with either the classic or the skating technique. On a 13 km round course you can train under surveillance until you are ready to ski on your own.
Along those 90 km of uninterrupted panoramic trail you’ll find plenty of opportunities to get started. In the village of Trattenbach for example there are three possibilities to access the route. And there are other things to do as well. You can use the fun court for ice skating or use the many ploughed municipal streets for relaxed walks through the wintery countryside.
