Details for: Hike to the Waldfreundehütte Obersberg (from Schwarzau/Gebirge)

Brief description

Pleasant mountain hike of about 600 meters elevation in Schwarzau im Gebirge to the Waldfreundehütte on the Obersberg at 1464 meters above sea level.

Description

The quiet town of Schwarzau im Gebirge lies between the Rax and Schneeberg mountains on the river Schwarza. With mostly forested municipal area, the village is ideal for hiking and time out in nature. A small but lovely nature park also offers a nice excursion destination. Culture enthusiasts can admire the churches and chapels. Schwarzau is the ideal starting point for hikes to the Obersberg. On its summit at 1464 meters above sea level lies the Waldfreundehütte Obersberg. Up to 36 Eastern Alpine peaks can be seen by hikers stopping at this hut. A truly heavenly panorama, considering that some pilgrims on the way to Mariazell also stop here. For refreshment, for example, Kasnocken or a piece of homemade cake is served.

Pilgrimage routes to Mariazell, along which a detour to the Waldfreundehütte on the Obersberg is possible, include the Burgenland Mariazell Route and the last stage of the Marienweg. A regional route of the Wiener Alpenbogen trail from the Edelweißhütte on Schneeberg to the Preintal also runs through Schwarzau im Gebirge.
