Description

Along the old city wall, head towards Mörterteich through a small settlement into the Saaß, fascinating rock formations like the Hat and the Devil's Stone can be admired on the route to Schandachen. At the Devil's Stone, you can clearly see the claw marks left by the prince of hell! The return path leads through the Waldviertel landscape, among other things next to the golf course, down to Herrensee.

Route description To the Hat and Devil's Stone

First right at Herrensee, then along the city wall past Mörterteich leads the path through a small settlement into a short forest. After crossing Schandacher Street, continue left after 100 meters to Saaßer Street, then right past small farms and houses. Again right through the forest, we reach the Hat Stone, and then the Devil's Stone. Next, go to Schandachen, where opposite the fire station the path leads between stables and barns out into the open field. Along the cattle pasture, we walk towards the forest, cross the small dam, then immediately turn right into the high forest. On the forest road, we keep right and after a few minutes, we find ourselves back on Saaßer Street, which we follow to the left. Shortly after the "Three Brothers" resting place, a field path branches off to the right. Through the forest to Hörmannser Street, then steeply down at the edge of the golf course to Herrensee. Here you have the choice: go left to shorten your hike by about 40 minutes, right to make a full circuit around Herrensee.
