Advent, a time of joyful anticipation...

Peace and charm. An abbey, a forge and a castle - these are the stunning settings of the most incredible Christmas markets in Lower Austria.

A peaceful period, with pleasant Advent magic. In the run-up to Christmas, Lower Austria turns into a great big Advent calendar. Over 24 festive markets and attractions can be found behind castle and town gates, in the Kellergassen and ancient ruins, up mountains and in streams.

Magical locations, tranquil moments and tradition without the frills. Advent is still celebrated in a traditional and diverse manner in Lower Austria. During advent in the Weinviertel region, local customs and a time for reflection come together in the atmospheric Kellergassen. The world heritage site of Wachau becomes an ideal setting for Christmas advent concerts and boat trips along the Danube during the Wachau advent. And for a "hands-on" holiday we recommend a winter break in the Waldviertel region at advent markets with regional crafts.

In the Mostviertel, this year the Ö3 Christmas miracle is making a guest appearance for the first time. From 19 to 24 December, the Ö3 team will be responding to music requests live from the St. Pölten town hall square and helping families in need with every hit. It would be a great shame to miss the light and fire spectacle that is "Flaming Christmas" in the Mostviertel region, where cider and irons glow. Snow crunching under winter boots becomes a welcome companion on trips to the advent markets and the walks into the Vienna Alps that follow. In the Vienna Woods, fairytale advent markets, such as those in Baden and Mödling, invite you to come and marvel and enjoy.

As you already know, presents cannot be opened before Christmas Eve. Those on the road to Lower Austria during the advent period are certain to get lots of presents before Christmas. Be captivated!
