Station Payerbach-Reichenau

Train station

Description

The Payerbach-Reichenau railway station was opened in 1854 as a stop on the Semmering Railway. From 2006 to 2008 it was extensively revitalized. The listed building was largely preserved.

In the first half of the 20th century, numerous summer visitors started their Rax excursions here. There was even a separate waiting room for the Kaiser family. From 1926 to 1963, the narrow-gauge Höllental Railway ran to Hirschwang an der Rax as an additional line. Since 1979 it has been in operation again at weekends - as a nostalgic museum railway.
