Das Museumsdorf Niedersulz – Niederösterreichs größtes Freilichtmuseum – zeigt auf einer Fläche von 22 ha ein Weinviertler Dorf anno dazumal.

Village life and idyll scenes in Museumsdorf Niedersulz

Founded in 1980 the Museumsdorf Niedersulz is the largest outdoor museum in Lower Austria, which exhibits and documents the workaday life of a characteristic village in the Weinviertel at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.

Nearly 80 historical buildings like farmhouses, chapels, barns, an old tavern and school, typical winecellars of two centuries are genuinely constructed in the Museumsdorf Niedersulz.

Many of the interiors have been furnished and recreate lifestyle, how people were living in the countryside in these days.

Blooming gardens & flowery meadows

In 2012 the areas of the Museumsdorf were enhanced by newly-arranged countrymen´s gardens and agricultural zones. By now almost 400 fruit-bearing trees of ancient cultivars, managed grassland, historical vine cultures, pumpkin fields as well as herb gardens and kitchen gardens are shown in the Museumsdorf. Authentic crop rarities and regional flora are planted in accordance with ecological terms.

Pleasure, leasure and lively village life

An idyllic tavern with a conservatory in the middle of the village square offers local and seasonal dishes. Two play yards, picnic places and a museum shop with regional products complete the numbering supply in the Museumsdorf.

The „Living farm“ with his ancient strains of domestic animals like pigs, sheep, goats, geese, chickens and hares is one of the highlights not only for the younger visitors.

Special exhibitions are shown in the Museumsdorf throughout the whole year. Different specific themes like „Farmer´s life in the course of time“, „Loam in architectural use“ or „Smallholders and their environment“ are quite a few of them.
