Festivals to celebrate in June

Summer sends warm greetings: Along the Danube, on stage, in a cellar-lined road, in the countryside or in a garden!

In June in Lower Austria, the start of summer, nature, art and wine invite you to a host of special events full of atmosphere.

On June 21, the sun in St. Pölten needs exactly 16 hours and 4 minutes to rise in the east and set in the west. The longest day of the year is duly celebrated in many places throughout Lower Austria but most spectacularly in the Wachau and the Nibelungengau. During their summer solstice celebrations, the nighttime river landscape takes center stage with the impressive help of huge fireworks, lights floating on the Danube and vineyards illuminated with torches.

Early summer festivals
June gives visitors to Lower Austria plenty of other occasions to celebrate, as well. For instance, merry festivals along cellar-lined roads, summer activities in the Alps (Bergsommer), charming summer garden events (Gartensommer), or Weinviertel banquets (Weinviertler Tafeln).

Presenting art
In June in Lower Austria, spirits soar and culture blossoms. The Lower Austrian Theater Festival, the largest summer stage festival in Austria, puts on nearly 30 premieres from mid-June to early September. The summer lineup in Grafenegg revolves around classical music while Schwaigen-Reigen am Wechsel and aufhOHRchen focus on contemporary folk music and the fabelhaft storytelling festival features tales from around the world.
