TheVeltlinerland carries its purpose in its name.  Grüner Veltliner, the Weinviertel's leading grape variety, dominates in this region. Gentle hills, expanses of fields and vineyards, modern winegrowers' farms and traditional cellar alleys are ideal for exploring here by bike.

Starting from Poysdorf or Falkenstein you will experience the perfect cycling experience, here are our tour tips for your stay:

  • Veltliner (66 km): Starting in Poysdorf, the Veltliner bike tour takes you past the ruins of Staatz Castle.  Regular guided ruin walks from May to October familiarise you with the history of the region (please book a guided tour in advance). Passing Kottingneusiedl, you reach Wildendürnbach with the “Galgenberg” cellar alley, which is well worth seeing, with over 180 wine press houses. Parallel to the Czech border, you reach the small village of Ottenthal, which is not far from the small wine village of Falkenstein. You still have to travel approx. 17 km to Poysdorf.

  • Welschriesling (37 km): The Welschriesling) takes you to the zany village of Herrnbaumgarten.  While there, a detour to the “Nonseum” is recommended, where you can be impressed by inventions that are all somewhat unusual. The hilly landscape leads you further to Großkrut via Altlichtenwarth . Via the romantic Kellerberg, you can make a detour to the Wartberg Warte and marvel at the wonderful expanse of the Weinviertel from there. The route continues via Walterskirchen back to Poysdorf.

  • Sylvaner (57 km): Starting from Poysdorf you travel along the Sylvaner cycle route via Walterskirchen and Bullendorf to Wilfersdorf.  Here you will find the Liechtenstein Schloss Wilfersdorf, which is one of the top excursion destinations in Lower Austria and is therefore definitely worth a visit. From here the tour continues to Mistelbach and Asparn/ Zaya, which are home to the MAMUZ Museum Mistelbach and MAMUZ Schloss Asparn. You then return to Poysdorf by way of the Weinviertel villages of Hörersdorf and Ameis. Our tip: Discover the world of wine and grapes in Poysdorf and explore the roots of its wine.

  • Liechtenstein bicycle tour (100 km): On the Liechtenstein bicycle tour you cycle from Poysdorf via Herrnbaumgarten and Schrattenberg across the Czech border to Valtice.  We recommend that you visit the Liechtenstein Castle of Valtice while you are there. The castle was owned by the Liechtenstein family for centuries and is considered one of the most significant examples of Baroque architecture in the Czech Republic. The cycle path continues to Lednice, which is the magnificent summer residence of the Princes of Liechtenstein with a unique palm house. From here you drive back to Austria and cross the border at Reintal. You cycle on to Altlichtenwarth, from where the route continues to Wilfersdorf and its magnificent castle and then back to Poysdorf. Alternatively, you can change over to the signposted Welschriesling cycle path in Altlichtenwarth. This way you can get back to Poysdorf by taking a shorter route via Großkrut and Walterskirchen. (Do not forget to bring your passport!)

To round off the evening, we recommend a Weinviertler Heurigenjause at one of the many Heurigen establishments. Upon request, we are happy to send you our Heurigen calendarwith the opening hours.
