Pedal knights following in the footsteps of commanders

Cycling on the Marchfeldkanal cycle route in Lower Austria: Pedal by the water – sport and fresh air for the whole family in the outskirts of Vienna.

Plenty of nature and historic buildings await cyclists on the Marchfeldkanal cycle route. The route runs along the side of the water, and is away from the busy road. The tour is fun for pleasure cyclists and children alike.

Head through the fields, along the March – “Austria’s vegetable garden” – and towards historic castles, making sure to stop for a bite to eat at one of the many taverns. The Marchfeldkanal cycle route starts directly in front of the gates of the capital, Vienna, and promises a true sense of a bike-friendly holiday – be it just for a few hours, or over a weekend.

61 kilometres of cycling fun
The Route branches off from the Danube cycle path, and leads from Langenzersdorf near to Vienna, and along the March and Russbach, to the magnificent Hof Castle. The cycling route does not include any strenuous slopes or busy roads. You can also travel by train for parts of the route. This is therefore a tour for all fitness levels, and families with children. Incidentally... Combining this tour with a boat ride on the Danube is especially pleasant.

Through the biotope to the castle
Originally established over twenty years ago for the supply of water, the Marchfeld Canal is now a natural biotope for animals and plants. Explore the region and discover, among other things, the legacy of the great commander Napoleon, or the Hof and Niederweiden castles in Marchfeld. Relax, eat and sleep at one of the many bike-friendly establishments along the route.
