Lower Austria’s highest ski resort and the one with the most reliable snow cover is a big draw to visitors with its varied slopes and countless highlights on and off the runs.

Scenic Hochkar is Lower Austria’s highest ski resort at 1,800 m above sea level. It is a place where families have a blast on 19 km of slopes and freeriders beam while deep powder enthusiasts get a charge of adrenalin.

Happiness in the snow for skiers and snowboarders
Snow cover is reliable at 1,800 m above sea level, so ski bunnies and ski pros will each find just the right downhill run for them. Hochkar has everything skiers and snowboarders could want. From the varied Fun Park and wild mogul runs to a small fairytale forest, there is something for everyone. Our tip for accommodation: The 3* JUFA Hochkar right next to the slopes.

Where beginners turn into pros
Lower Austria’s highest elevation ski resort has plenty to delight visitors: 10 lifts, 19 km of slopes and exciting nighttime skiing. Snowboarders, freeriders and novices love skiing here but so do Austrian ski greats like Thomas Sykora, Andreas Buder and Kathrin Zettel. They all discovered their love for skiing on these runs.

Family tip: Lackenhof-Ötscher and Göstling Hochkar combi ticket. These two ski resorts clearly disprove that skiing with children is very expensive. Children aged 10 and under (year of birth: 2010) pay just €4 a day – but they must be accompanied by at least one parent.

Beyond the slopes
Hochkar is not only a fantastic ski resort; it also offers plenty of action beyond the slopes. Visitors can look forward to wonderful snowshoe and winter hikes, 32 idyllic km of cross country skiing trails and 10 skating km, a natural sled run or romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides that end in the warmth of the Ybbs Valley Saltwater Spa.
