Königswarte

Mountain summit

Description

The Königswarte - a rocky border crosser: Austria's easternmost mountain is located near Hainburg and thus in the Low Carpathians, on the border with Slovakia. The 344-meter high elevation is surrounded by Wolfsthal, Berg and Edelstal.

The leisurely excursion mountain attracts visitors with various hiking routes - and a fallow deer enclosure on the northern flank. Since 2001, a 22-meter-high wooden lookout tower on the Kaiserwarte has been inviting visitors to enjoy a great view of the Roman Carnuntum region.

Location
Danube region, near Hainburg / on the border to Slovakia

Accessibility for hikers
A nice tip is the Via.Vista. Rundwanderweg Königswarte - a family-friendly hike through deciduous forests and vineyards to the observation tower.

Good to know: Not far from the lookout tower is a telecommunications reconnaissance facility continuously maintained by the Austrian Armed Forces, which was built in the late 1950s - financed by the USA.
