Description
The hike to the Alpenfreundhütte on the Krummbachstein, starting in Puchberg, first runs along the Schneebergbahn past the Galerie & Atelier VOKA, the Hengsthütte and the Ternitzerhütte. This section of the trail can also be combined with a leisurely ride on the Schneebergbahn. After the Ternitzerhütte, you hike along forest paths up to the Krumbachstein summit at an altitude of 1602 meters. An incredibly beautiful view of Hochschneeberg, Rax and Semmering awaits you here. The Alpenfreundehütte at 1,568 meters Seehühe is the perfect place to take a break. In addition to a fully equipped kitchen for self-cooking, the small, cozy self-catering hut also offers a bar with schnapps and non-alcoholic juices. If you want to fortify yourself before the summit, you can also branch off after the Ternitzerhütte to the Baumgartner stop and try the famous Schneeberg-Buchtln. You can also take the Schneebergbahn cable car to the stop or hike up(hike to the Baumgartner stop). From here, it takes around 1.5 hours to reach the Krummbachstein. Another alternative route leads from Payerbach via the Naturfreundehütte Knofeleben to the hut on the Krummbachstein in 4 hours.
The trail along the Wiener Alpenbogen - Arc of the Viennese Alps (trail) also leads past the Alpenfreundehütte on the Knofeleben - Edelweißhütte stage. If you want to walk from Schneeberg towards Krumbachstein, it is best to choose this route.

- Route description From the Puchberg am Schneeberg train station, we start through the town along the cog railway tracks. The path along the tracks leads us through the districts of Muthenhof and Hengsttal. Over the Hauslitzsattel, we pass by a place to stop, the Hengsthütte. After the Hengsthütte, we keep left and walk through the high forest. We reach a large alpine meadow with the Ternitzerhütte. Past the Ternitzerhütte, we follow the trail that ends in a path. At the path, we keep left and reach a road again. We walk right along this road and, after the curve, turn onto the path branching off to the right. We now continue straight on the path for about 800 meters, crossing a road on the way. We reach an intersection. Here, we follow the green-marked path straight ahead. The green marking continues right to the Alpenfreunde Hut at Krummbachstein.
