Description

The legendary Aggstein castle ruins are enthroned 300 meters above sea level on a rocky promontory sloping down on three sides above the Danube.

Presumably founded by the Kuenringers at the beginning of the 12th century, it was given its basic form, which has been preserved to this day, a good three centuries later. It allowed its changing owners to control transit traffic on the Danube. A fantastic view of the Wachau opens up from the boldly positioned, spacious walls, which can be easily reached by car or via the Way of St. James from Maria Langegg.

Hidden staircases, courtyards and towers, a dungeon as well as a chapel, a knight's hall and a tavern invite you to rediscover times long past.

A tour leads through the entire area. Even the highest walls can be climbed on wooden viewing platforms. Audio tours take visitors back to everyday knightly life and give them an even more intense experience of medieval life.

An experience for medieval fans and adventurers of all ages!
