Erlaufschlucht Purgstall

Outdoor adventure, Ponds, lakes and springs

Description

The Erlauf gorge is a key element of the landscape in Purgstall. Over the millennia, the river has dug itself up to 10 meters deep into the gravel (conglomerate) that has been deposited since the last ice age (Würm). The Erlauf Gorge is located in the Natura 2000 area and has been a natural monument since 1972 due to its unique landscape features and wild and romantic water features. Two viewing platforms rise a third above the Erlauf, allowing visitors to experience the elemental force of the water and inviting them to take photos and linger.

The Erlauf Gorge is accessible to everyone via the Prater Bridge. This leads for around 3.8 km along the Erlauf Gorge without any major differences in level. Viewing platforms and bridges provide insights into the beautiful gorge landscape.
The Fischersteig trail also runs right on the edge of the water. The conglomerates and rock formations can be seen particularly well on the approx. 2 km long section. Sure-footedness and good footwear are required here.

The starting point for both trails is at the Erlaufschlucht parking lot next to the Purgstall bowling center.
