Route description Wild Herb Trail

The knowledge about the power and benefits of herbs is as old as the cultural history of humanity. Excavations from the Neolithic period have revealed remnants of poppy and caraway. The first written documents date back to the 4th millennium BC. Egyptians, Chinese, and Indians already had extensive herbal knowledge back then.
The Bible also provides clues about the power of herbs, which have always been an essential part of religious festivals. The entire hike is entertaining and exciting for the whole family! You start at the SONNENTOR experience and walk up the street. At the Löschteich (beach volleyball court) follow the yellow signs through the forest.
A highlight of this route is the climb to the Auberg lookout tower. Located in the middle of the dense Waldviertel forest at an elevation of 811 meters, 130 steps lead to the 23.40-meter-high viewing platform (tower height 27.55 m). You will be rewarded with a magnificent view far beyond the Waldviertel – all the way to Schneeberg and Ötscher! In the summer half-year, in addition to the Celtic tree calendar, various dragon figures also line the path. From the Auberg lookout tower, the path leads you to Großgöttfritz, Reichers, and via Rohrenreith back to Sprögnitz. The route is easy, with only slight elevation, and passes through a beautiful part of the Waldviertel.
