Zdarsky-Berg Muckenkogel (Gipfel)
Mountain summit, Scenic lookout
Description
The 1,248 m high Muckenkogel above the medieval Lilienfeld Abbey attracts visitors with its alpine pastures, forest and waterfalls - as well as well-marked hiking trails. If you like, you can take a comfortable chair lift ride up to the summit station. The best views are guaranteed: From Klösterpunkt - the highest point of the Muckenkogel - the view extends to the four surrounding monasteries of Lilienfeld, Göttweig, Melk and Herzogenburg.
The Lilienfelder Hut and the Almgasthaus Billensteiner provide refreshments for hikers, walkers, climbers and mountain bikers - as does the Traisner Hut. With its location on the 1,313 m high Hinteralm, it is the highest hut in Lilienfeld.
Location
Gutenstein Alps, Lilienfeld
Good to know:
In 1905, Mathias Zdarsky organized the first goal run in alpine skiing history on the Muckenkogel. The mountain still commemorates this historic event today: the Mathias Zdarsky Panorama Trail runs as a circular route from the summit station via Muckenkogel and Hinteralm and back via the Klosteralm. On the other hand, the Mathias Zdarsky inventor's trail presents his most important inventions on a themed trail - using true-to-original models.
