Kamp-Thaya-March cycle route

Athletic-yet-gentle and gastronomic-yet-historical are interesting contradictions which are combined by the Kamp-Thaya-March route.

From Krems, the Kamp-Thaya-March route leads cyclists through the romantic Waldviertel and Weinviertel, and the charming meadow landscape of March. With its diverse stages, the tour provides thrills for athletes and pleasure cyclists alike.

From the wine region to the meadow landscape
The beautiful, 420-kilometre long Kamp-Thaya-March route winds along quiet, well-marked minor roads, which stretch across Lower Austria and are rich in contrasts. In the evergreen Waldviertel, the tour starts in an athletic manner, before gradually entering the gently rolling Weinviertel and leading through the vineyards and romantic wine cellar lanes, such as those in Pulkautal or Wildendürnbach. The route ends in the rolling meadow landscape of Marchegg, where the castle is the crowning glory. Cycle along the river with a clear head, and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Lower Austria, away from the main roads and the crowds of tourists. An insider tip which is not to be missed.

Variety away from the route
The excursion opportunities are as diverse as the stages. From the wine and grape experience Vino Versum Poysdorf (interactive wine exhibition in three languages – English, Czech and German), to the falconry shows at the Renaissance Rosenburg Castle and the Thayatal National Park, and to the Retzer wine cellar and the marvellous gardens of Schloss Hof, each stage offers a culinary or historic highlight. Our tip: Don’t forget to visit an inn, taste a “Waldviertler Mohnzelten” (sweet potato dumplings with a poppy seed filling), and to enjoy the unique viewing points along the Kamp-Thaya-March route. By the way... If you are looking for somewhere to cool down, try the idyllic Ottenstein reservoir, or the cellars in the wine villages of Galgenberg and Falkenstein. An unforgettable cycling tour awaits you.
