Brief description

The well-signposted forest nature trail offers a varied and entertaining forest walk with its information boards, benches, viewpoints, and the recreation oasis.

Description

The starting point for the forest nature trail is either at the parking lot of the recreation oasis (see arrival). Or you can walk from the village square, passing the Overland Café-Bar and then up the hollow path on the right. Upon arrival at the top (recreation oasis parking lot) there is already the first rest area. Following the beautiful forest path uphill, you will soon reach the recreation oasis in the middle of the forest. It is worth taking a short break here to enjoy the tranquility and relax your mind. Those who plan a visit in summer will find berries to snack on, a barefoot path, a spring stone, and comfortable loungers and hammocks between the trees. The path continues winding upward, dotted with information boards, to the Hubertus chapel. Passing on the left, always following the path and the signs, you will reach the Krainerwand. A last bench invites you to linger and listen to the babbling village stream. Here you can decide whether to cross the stream and walk down the village street to the starting point or return the same way.

Directions

From Vienna: A2 South Motorway through the Pttental to the Edlitz-Aspang exit, then continue on the Wechsel federal road B54 towards Aspang. At Wanghof take L134 into the Feistritz valley.

From Graz: On the A2 South Motorway take the Zöbern exit towards Aspang - via B54 and L134 to Feistritz am Wechsel.

Parking

Parking is available at the village square or directly at the starting point to the recreation oasis (towards Dorfgraben, past the cemetery and right up at the first bridge).

Feistritz am Wechsel is easily accessible by public transport. Take the Aspang railway from Wr. Neustadt to Edlitz-Grimmenstein and continue by regional bus 370 to Feistritz am Wechsel (town center).

Equipment

Always bring suitable maps. Wear sturdy shoes appropriate for the route. Take your mobile phone and save the mountain rescue emergency number: 140

Preparation

Make sure the chosen route matches your experience and fitness. Check the weather report beforehand. Weather in the mountains can change unexpectedly fast. Therefore, always start properly equipped (e.g., rain protection).
