It's like with wine, and one can say, as in life in general: it's all about the right mix! Who wants monotony? Especially in leisure time and on vacation. There is a region here that seems as if God had mixed a cocktail meant purely for relaxation: the municipality of Schönberg am Kamp. The southern slopes of the Manhartsberg with their typical wine terraces meet here the river landscape of the Kamp and the foothills of the mystical Gföhlerwald. The result is a very special mixture of wine, water, and forest right in the middle of the nature park, which you will search for a long time elsewhere.
The market town of Schönberg, 53 km² and 13 cadastral communities with a total of 14 villages: Schönbergneustift, Schönberg, Mollands, See, Stiefer, Thürneustift, Buchberger Waldhütten, Altenhof, Plank, Oberplank, Fernitz, Freischling, Raan, and Kriegenreith.
Starting point of the tourAlte Schmiede
Starting from Schönberg, near "Alte Schmiede", the circular route passes by the ruins of Schonenburg up to the Manhartsberg. Once at the top, go straight to the forester's lodge; there turn right and continue along the edge of the forest towards Große Heide. Just before the state road towards Obernholz, turn left and walk parallel to it to finally cross it. Then you come to a viewpoint from which you can enjoy a wonderful view as far as Ötscher and Schneeberg. Afterwards, walk down to Kalvarienberg and back to Schönberg.
