Circular route on the high plateau of Schneeberg - from the mountain station of the cog railway to the summit at Klosterwappen (2,075 m) - excellently accessible by public transport!
Description
The summit of Schneeberg, the highest mountain in Lower Austria, is climbed on this route via mountain hiking trails. The ascent to the starting point at the mountain station of the Schneebergbahn can be comfortably made either by train ride or on foot from Puchberg along the cog railway hiking trail. At the mountain station, enjoy the breathtaking view first and visit the mountain inn or the Elisabeth chapel. Children can play at the highest playground in Lower Austria, the Salamander playground, and enjoy the Sei jungle. Then the hike can start. Before reaching the summit, you can stop at the Damböckhaus. Via the Ochsenboden, continue upwards to 2076 meters above sea level to the Klosterwappen, the highest point in all of Lower Austria. After soaking in this feeling and the view, it goes a few meters downhill where you can refresh yourself at the Fischerhütte. On the way back, you pass the Damböckhaus again and finally return to the mountain station. A true paradise of views!
Those who want to continue hiking from the summit over Schneeberg can do so on the 14th stage of the Wiener Alpenbogen trail!
Please consider the information about elevation, distance, and walking time when planning your hike so that the route remains an enjoyable experience for the whole family.
