Description
Every tree is a unique artwork of nature – but some specimens stand out in a special way. Currently, in the garden city Tulln, twelve trees are designated as "tree artworks" with interesting information.
You may encounter these great shade givers by chance while strolling through the city or learn during a targeted WALK what makes these trees so special.
Look forward to the following tree artworks:
- Mountain Maple: The mountain maple is a plant species from the maple genus. It is widespread in Europe and an important representative of its genus both as a park tree and in forestry.
Donaulände near the Nibelungen Fountain - Primeval Giant Sequoia: also called Chinese redwood, metasequoia or water fir, it was once thought extinct until 1941 when a living specimen was discovered in an inaccessible mountain region in Sichuan province, China – a botanical sensation.

- Tree of Heaven: The tree of heaven is a deciduous tree species originally native to China and Vietnam. It is now found worldwide in all temperate climate regions.

- Blue Jacaranda Tree: Also called emperor tree or emperor paulownia, it is a plant species from the paulownia genus in the family of lip flower plants.

- Silver Maple: The silver maple is a species from the maples. It is native to eastern North America.

- Tulip Tree: The tulip tree is originally native to eastern North America and belongs to the magnolia family.

- Cinnamon Maple: The cinnamon maple belongs to the soapberry family (Sapindaceae). It is native to China but can also be well cultivated here. The first plants arrived in England in 1902.

- Oak: The oak genus includes about 400 different species. They are distributed across all continents of the northern hemisphere.

- Maple-leaved Plane Tree: Also called bastard plane, common plane, hybrid plane or London plane, it is a hybrid from the plane tree genus.
Brückenstraße/ war memorial
- Linden: The linden genus includes about 40 species, with summer linden, winter linden, and silver linden native to Europe.
Wienerstraße – near St. Stephan parish church
- Wingnut Tree: Wingnuts are a plant genus in the walnut family. The genus includes six deciduous tree species native to Asia.
Rudolf-Buchinger Street
- Pedunculate Oak: Also called summer oak or German oak, it is a species from the oak genus in the beech family.

Route description Theme route: Tree artworks Tulln
We start the tree art route at the beautiful Donaulände – Tulln's most beautiful public garden. Before we start along the river, we pass the newly designed Nibelungenplatz. "The Place for Everyone(s)" becomes the scene of a diverse program especially in summer & autumn. Fancy playing, cooling off, or a snack at HANS WURST?
