Brief description

You feel like in heaven at the Himmelalm in Türnitz. The steadily ascending route is especially well suited for families with children. It offers a beautiful view and play opportunities, as well as a cold snack at the Otto-Kernstock-Haus at 825 m above sea level.

Description

The route leads over partly paved paths and partly over beautiful forest and meadow paths steadily uphill. There are several resting options along the way. The route is particularly suitable for families with children, as it can be completed in 1.5 hours. The magnificent view of the Türnitzer Höger, the Kräuterbachtal, and the village area of Lehenrotte rewards the hiker when reaching the Himmelalm. There, you are spoiled with a good snack at the Ottokar Kernstock-Haus and can try the Russian bowling alley. If you hike another 10 minutes up from the hut, there is a wonderful view at Ratzeneck. To the east, you can see Kloster- and Hinteralpe with a shelter, the Reisalpe, and the Schneeberg. Looking to the west, there is a magnificent view of the Dürrenstein and the Ötscher.

Route description To the Himmel in Lehenrotte

Opposite the "Traisentaler Hof" a sign shows the start of the ascent. The access road climbs to the house of the "Reitbauer". 200 m above the "Reitbauer" a path leads to the right to a small waterfall, then back on the blue-marked hiking trail over a flowery meadow to the beech forest. Through the cool shady forest, the path reaches the Strubreiter Höhe after a half-hour hike. From the Strubreiter Höhe to the convalescent home (rest area with tables and benches), then through the forest to the forestry road and from there right to the "Himmelalm" and the Otto-Kernstock-Haus, which originated from the former farmhouse "Am Himmel" and belongs to the pasture cooperative.

A1 exit St. Pölten South - turn right towards Mariazell - keep straight on B 20 via Wilhelmsburg and Lilienfeld to Lehenrotte (shortly before Türnitz)
