Brief description

The 4th stage of the Wiener Alpenbogen (WAB) trail starts in Wiesmath and leads over the ridges and through the deep ravines of the Bucklige Welt to Kirchschlag.

Description

The fascinating landscape of the Bucklige Welt shapes the special experience of this stage. Here you find ancient wayside shrines, fortified churches, crowded settlements, and an almost boundless freedom on the hills. Starting from Wiesmath, the perceived heart of this landscape, the path leads varied and with many views over the ridges and through the deep ravines of the Bucklige Welt.

Route description WAB - Stage 4: Wiesmath - Kirchschlag

We start in the center of Wiesmath and follow the yellow signs with the blue Wiener Alpen logo. We pass through Schwarzenberg and follow the path. At Neumühle we turn right and walk along the road. At the next intersection we turn left and then leave the road again to follow the path. We pass through Gleichenbach and follow the signs to Lembach, where we enjoy the view of Schneeberg and the Wiener Alpen Bogen. We continue along the path to Kirchschlag in the Bucklige Welt to the end point of the stage at the Kaiser Franz Joseph monument.

Directions

Coming from Vienna on the A2, turn off at Wiener Neustadt onto the S4 towards Eisenstadt and take the Lanzenkirchen exit. Continue on Frohsdorfer Straße and Wr. Neustädter Straße and follow the signs to Wiesmath.

Coming from Graz on the A2, leave the motorway at the Grimmenstein exit and continue on the B54. Follow the signs to Wiesmath.

Parking

Parking is available in the town center.

Take the regional buses 7840 of the VVNB from Wiener Neustadt station to Wiesmath.

Equipment

Always take suitable maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes adapted to the route, take sun and rain protection as well as water and a snack. Take your mobile phone and save the emergency number of mountain rescue: 140

Make sure when choosing the route that it matches your mountain experience and your fitness. Inform yourself in advance about the weather forecast. The weather in the mountains can change surprisingly fast. Always set out accordingly equipped (e.g. rain protection).

Check whether the huts and snack stops you want to visit along the way are open. Inform someone about your choice of route and your planned return before you start.
