Brief description

Vineyards as far as the eye can see! Bike ride through the vineyards of Langenlois with beautiful views of the wine town and the surrounding area.

Description

This circular route leads through the cellar lane Kühsteingraben into the vineyards southwest of Langenlois and offers beautiful views of the wine town Langenlois, the "Rieslingberg" Heiligenstein, the wine villages Mittelberg and Lengenfeld, Göttweig Abbey and over the Wagram to the Tulln field. To finish, it goes back through the cellar lane at Sauberg to the center of Langenlois.

Route description Wine bike ride

At the roundabout at Kornplatz take the exit towards the church and Rathausstraße, then immediately after the bridge over the Loisbach at the local museum turn right towards Holzplatz. After 100 m turn right again and cross the Loisbach once more. Immediately after the bridge turn left into Loiskandlzeile. Now follow the Loisbach for 1.5 km. At the end of Gartenzeile (after the Nastl Heurigen) turn left and follow the cellar lane Kühsteingraben uphill for 500 m.
After the last cellar buildings follow the gravel path for another 300 m and turn left at the next intersection. Now go steeply uphill on the gravel path for 200 m. At the top turn right and immediately turn left at the next opportunity and follow the gravel path for another 300 m. Turn right at the next intersection. Now go on the paved path level through the vineyards.
After about 1.5 km at the wayside shrine go straight ahead. After another kilometer at the intersection turn sharp left.
Now it goes back towards Langenlois. At the next two intersections always keep left and follow the path for about 1 km. At the statue of St. Donatus turn left and immediately right at the next intersection. Now follow the path gently downhill for 1.5 km.
At the intersection "Riede Kittmannsberg" keep right and turn left at the next intersection. Follow the path for 500 m, then turn right and follow the path further for 700 m back into the urban area of Langenlois. At the intersection Kremser Straße / cellar lane Buriweg turn left onto Kremser Straße.
After 500 m turn right into the cellar lane Sauberg and follow the street for about 600 m. At the parking lot P3 Zentrum turn right and follow Kremser Straße and Rathausstraße back to the center at Kornplatz and to the starting point.

Directions

From Vienna: Danube Riverside Autobahn A22 towards Stockerau, continue on S5 towards Krems to the Fels am Wagram exit and on B34 to Langenlois.

From the west: West Autobahn A1 towards Vienna to St. Pölten, continue on S33 and B37 to Krems and on B218 to Langenlois.

Parking

Parking lot P1 Zentrum in Walterstraße or parking lot P3 Zentrum in Kremser Straße

Regular regional train connections between Langenlois and Hadersdorf (connection to Vienna), Krems as well as the Kamptal (fahrplan.oebb.at).

Equipment

We recommend: helmet, suitable clothing and footwear, rain and sun protection, first aid kit (blister plasters), snacks (small lunch, muesli bar, fruit, water).

Author's tip

To finish the route, stop at a Heurigen – for example in the cellar lane at Sauberg – for a meal.

This route can be combined with the garden bike ride (total 31 km, 390 m elevation, 2:20 h; starting the wine bike ride at Nastl Heurigen in Langenlois when coming from the garden bike ride).
