Fogstone
Mountain summit, Scenic lookout
Description
The Nebelstein probably offers one of the most impressive views in the Waldviertel. Once you have climbed the platform, you will be amazed by the vast panorama. The view can be enjoyed even more intensely if you reach the summit on a hike, for example on the Nebelstein adventure hiking trail, which offers numerous routes and possibilities.
At 1,017 meters, the Nebelstein near Moorbad Harbach is one of the highest elevations in the Waldviertel. On clear days, the view extends in all directions: to the Czech Republic to the wooded Gratzer mountains, across the lowlands of the Lainsitz in the north and the gently rolling hills of the Waldviertel in the east and south. Even the Ötscher in the Alps is visible. Even the ascent is impressive with its impressive rock formations and, with a bit of luck, you may encounter a red fox, wild boar, deer, hare or squirrel.
The adventure hiking trail is particularly exciting with its six stations that bring you closer to the wood, stone, moor and forest animals of the Waldviertel. The 11 kilometers fly by and make the tour ideal for the whole family.
The Nebelstein can be climbed on various paths: From the parking lot, the summit can be reached in just 15 minutes. For longer hikes, national and international hiking trails meet here, including the North-South long-distance hiking trail, the Thayatalweg, the European long-distance hiking trail and the Lainsitztalweg. Circular hiking trails such as routes 20 and 21 start at Moorbad Harbach.
If you want to explore the Waldviertel on foot, you shouldn't miss the Nebelstein and the neighboring peaks Großer and Kleiner Peilstein also offer impressive nature experiences.
