Dreifaltigkeitskirche Karnabrunn
Church
Description
The Holy Trinity Church in Karnabrunn is a Roman Catholic parish and pilgrimage church dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity in the municipality of Großrußbach. It was built between 1684 and 1686 on a hill above the village at the behest of Count Julius Bucceleni - presumably as a vow building after a period of plague - and is visible from afar.
The early Baroque building has a cruciform ground plan with a strong tower on the choir and impressive interior fittings. The high altar and side altars date from the 1780s and the altarpiece depicts the Holy Trinity.
A special feature is the baroque staircase with 104 steps and six sandstone figures, which leads up from the village to the church. It is one of the longest of its kind in Lower Austria.
The interior of the church was renovated in 2010 and fitted with a new altar for the people.
