Description
Railroad panorama
The viaduct boldly spans the local road in Emmersdorf in eight arches. 105 meters long and over 100 years old. Since 1909, the Danube embankment railroad ran here, on which steam locomotives transported people and materials between Krems and St. Valentin.
The railroad line is part of the Wachau Cultural Landscape, which was added to the UNESCO World Hertige site list in 2000. Over the course of time, however, it has become quieter on the tracks. In 2009, just two tourist trains, the "Wachau" and the "Strudengau", were still running on the Danube Embankment Railway. ÖBB closed the line in 2010 and the state of Lower Austria took over the section of the Wachau Railway with NÖVOG as the operating company. After extensive investment, the time had come in 2012: since then, the Wachau Railway has been operating tourist and nostalgic services between Krems and Emmersdorf again.
Kolomanistiege
The historic Kolomanistiege connects the picturesque town center of Emmersdorf with the idyllic high plateau of the parish church. Treat yourself to a break at the inviting rest area in the middle of the staircase, where you will find the impressive statue of St. Koloman. From here you can enjoy a magnificent view over the rooftops of Emmersdorf - a truly picturesque experience!
