Description

If Archduke Johann of Austria were in his early thirties today, he would certainly be a start-up founder. There's just one catch: his death in 1859 was over 150 years ago. The Archduke Johann Documentation in Thernberg in the Buckligen Welt commemorates the important lateral thinker.

Johann had the best prerequisites. He was part of the House of Habsburg, Austrian field marshal and an alert mind. For more than 21 years he was the owner of Thernberg Castle and Manor and modernized the Bucklige Welt in a sustainable way. He also supported the idea of building the Semmering Railway.

His greatest achievements include experiments to improve agriculture, the establishment of a pomological school, the consolidation of important collections, and efforts in the documentation of folk culture and customs. Also worth a visit is the Archduke Johann Model Park in Mönichkirchen, where, among other things, miniatures of the Habsburgs' homes and places of work can be seen.
