Description

Frauenbergkirche - memorial to the fallen of both world wars

A steep staircase leads from the east side of the parish church of St. Nicholas to the former Frauenbergkirche. An early church settlement already existed here in the 11th century, which extended around St. Michael's Church, first mentioned in 1081. During excavations in the course of restoration work, the remains of the Romanesque altar foundations and a Roman floor were discovered.

The existing Gothic hall church was built around 1380 and mentioned in a document in 1401. It has a mighty square tower with a domed roof, which is visible from afar and is known locally as the "old Michel". On the top floor of the tower is the apartment of the fire warden, who worked there until 1970. The chimney and balcony of this apartment can still be seen. The slightly wider and low nave is attached to the east of the tower. Remains of a late medieval depiction of the Adoration of the Magi have been preserved on the north wall.
