Description
The 336-metre-high Gaisberg, also known as Geißberg, is the local mountain of the municipality of Straß im Straßertale. The south-easternmost foothills of the Manhartsberg are considered the "top location" of Straß, where excellent Grüner Veltliner and Riesling wines thrive. Just a 40-minute drive from Vienna, the region is ideal for wine tasting, hiking or simply relaxing.
Winegrowing has a centuries-old tradition here, which is why there are numerous wineries here that have been successfully cultivated for several generations.
Tips in the area
- The region's winegrowers present themselves together in the Weinkontraste wine shop in Straß im Straßertale. The wines can be purchased here ex-farm.
- Hotel Eisenbock's Strasser Hof is surrounded by vineyards. The hotel invites you to stay here for a few days, or to take a culinary break after a hike in the vineyards.
