Große Kampschlucht

Outdoor adventure

Description

The Große Kampschlucht gorge is one of the most impressive natural experiences in the Waldviertel. Above the Heumühle mill, the Große Kamp breaks through a granite barrier and forms a wild, pristine gorge - a paradise for nature lovers and hikers. Just a few steps further on, the quiet forest valley "Paradies" opens up, where the river babbles quietly and promises absolute relaxation.

The Kampschlucht gorge is usually discovered on the popular Bärentrail trail, which has been leading along narrow paths through the natural river valley since 2016. This is where the Waldviertel shows its most pristine side: rough granite formations, rocks millions of years old and dense forests of spruce, birch and pine. The rust-red color of the Kamp is particularly fascinating, caused by the high iron content in the water, which is dissolved from the acidic soils of the Waldviertel.

The paradise on the Kamp is the ideal place to pause and enjoy. Between moss-covered stones, birdsong and the gentle sound of water, you can experience the tranquillity of nature to the full. Please stay on the marked paths to protect the sensitive vegetation.

It is also worth making a detour to the nearby Lembach rock garden, where the nature experience is perfectly rounded off - wilderness, water and forest in harmony.
