Description

In the rooms of the former monastery, almost forgotten worlds of work such as soap boiling or basket weaving come to life and become a tangible experience.

There are guided tours of the craft museum, the monastery school workshops and various exhibitions. Finally, you can visit the well-stocked monastery store and basket.garden - the products of the house and regional products in the "monastery store": Soaps, baskets, hand-kneaded beeswax candles, wooden goods, schnapps, poppy & pumpkin products, olive oil and much more.
In the museum , old crafts and lost working worlds can be experienced and understood. The technique of basket weaving , including various basket shapes, materials and types of use typical of the region, is presented as well as interesting facts about flax production. You can also learn interesting facts about the production of shingle roofs and thatched roofs.

Soap production is based entirely on the region: fats and oils come from Waldviertel oil plants. The recipes are rounded off with regional herbs. You can experience their scent when you enter the monastery through the basket garden in the summer months. Plants for soap production are cultivated here.
You can also visit the "1st Austrian basket outlet" where you can buy Wachauer Zistel, Waldviertler Erdäpfelkorb, brooms & Co.or the Schönbach Laundry Museum, which contains an extensive collection of washing machines, irons and stories about washing clothes in times gone by.

TIP: Experience untouched Waldviertel nature on a hike through the nearby Lohnbach Falls .
