Description
For the 25th anniversary of the male choral society, Scheibbs built a festival hall in 1886 with a special attraction: electric lighting with three carbon filament lamps. These "electric suns" were gradually installed throughout the town. Scheibbs was thus one of the first towns in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy to have electric street lighting. On the façade of the Torbäck House there is a lamp on the original bracket, which has been recreated from the only surviving original. In order to recreate the pressed carbon rods, the lamps were lowered daily on a wire rope. At the Sgraffitohaus (Scheibbser Altstadtrunde Nord) there is another lamp suspended on wire ropes above the street.
