Description

Two small houses once stood here at the fork between Kartäusergasse and Abt Berthold Dietmayrgasse, which belonged to the parish. They also fell victim to the great fire in 1645. One housed the parish school, while the organist, who was also a teacher, lived in the second. This house was built in their place by the Carthusians in 1651 for the office of the court judge. The court judge had roughly the same function as the district judge and the district governor today. He was also in charge of the many secular employees of the Charterhouse. The later famous Abbot Berthold Dietmayr, who commissioned the construction of Melk Abbey, was born in this house in 1670.

The building currently houses the district office of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce.
