Jakobskogel (Rax)
Mountain summit
Description
At 1,736 m, the Jakobskogel is located on the Lower Austrian side of the Rax, not far from the Ottohaus and the summit station of the Rax cable car. Its location and unique 360° panorama make it a popular hiking destination. Families and excursionists in particular appreciate the Kogel for its short and rewarding ascent to the summit cross.
From the summit station of the cable car, it takes around an hour to hike up to the Jakobskogel, passing the Ottohaus at an altitude of just under 200 m. The high alpine terrain makes for a varied and beautiful hike, but requires surefootedness.
Hiking recommendations:
- Hike up to the Jakobskogel from the summit station
- Hut hopping on the Rax variants 1,1b,1c and 2 (short detour to the Jakobskogel)
Tip:
A short hike (approx. 20 minutes) to the Jakobskogel is particularly worthwhile at sunrise, when you can stop at the Ottohaus overnight stay.
