Kamptalwildnis bei Schauenstein

Outdoor adventure

Description

In the middle Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German) between Wegscheid am Kamp and Rosenburg, visitors can experience one of Austria's most pristine natural landscapes. The Kamptal wilderness delights with its free-flowing river, steep hillside forests, old beech stands and flower-filled riverside meadows. Away from roads and civilization, time seems to stand still here, ideal for anyone who wants to experience real wilderness in the Waldviertel.

Around the Schauenstein ruins, the forest shows its most diverse side: lime, beech, elm and maple trees form impressive ravine forests. The old "Methuselah" trees in particular make the area an ecologically valuable habitat. Rare animal species such as white-tailed eagles, black storks, beavers and bats live here - a paradise for nature lovers and photographers.

If you want to experience the wilderness up close, the valley is best explored on foot. The Schauensteinweg trail runs for around 13 kilometers from Wegscheid am Kamp via the ruins to Altpölla, with magnificent views of the secluded valley. For ambitious hikers, the Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German) Lakes Trail offers almost 100 kilometers of pure nature experience.

A highlight is a visit to the Schauenstein ruins, a former Babenberg castle dating back to the 11th century. The viewing platform in the keep offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German). A place full of history, legends and natural magic, the Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German) is a real gem for hikers, nature lovers and explorers.
