Kapuzinerkirche Scheibbs
Church, Historical sites
Description
In 1678, the foundation stone was laid for the Capuchin monastery with its extensive walled monastery garden. For a long time, the monastery was a place of training for religious from Germany and abroad. It has been vacant since 1995 due to a lack of staff. Today it is home to the Scheibbs youth culture initiative "Proberaum".
The Capuchin church is dedicated to St. Barbara and, as is usual in religious churches, has no tower but only a ridge turret. The interior is baroque and the altarpieces come from the school of "Kremser Schmidt". Every year at Christmas time, a nativity scene is set up here with life-size figures created by the Scheibbs sculptor Josef Schagerl in 1912.
