Kirchen am Fluss
Church, Museum
Description
The Wachau is a cultural landscape that has been strongly influenced by Christianity since Roman times. While St. Severin lived in Mautern at the beginning, many monasteries - especially from the Bavarian region - subsequently established vineyards in the Wachau in order to grow wine here, leaving a lasting mark on the landscape. Today, a large number of churches along the Danube bear witness to a long Christian tradition. These are linked along the themed routes by a small exhibition organized by the Melk Cultural and Museum Association. You can find more information at www.kirchen-am-fluss.at, where you can also gain an insight into churches that are not accessible or only accessible with difficulty.
