Kraftwerk Ottenstein
Company / plant tour
Description
The Ottenstein reservoir is the largest of the three bodies of water in the Kampseen region, which were created as a reservoir for EVN's Ottenstein power plant. The power plant is located at the foot of the 69 meter high Ottenstein arch dam. The four Francis turbines installed in the powerhouse have an output of 12 megawatts each and thus generate electricity for around 20,000 Lower Austrian households. This requires 84 to 100 cubic meters of water per second. The Ottenstein reservoir has a surface area of 4.3 square kilometers and a reservoir volume of 73 million m³.
Guided tours
Guided tours of the plant are available every Thursday in July and August at 10 am. Guided tours for groups (10 or more people) can be arranged individually at info.ottenstein@evn.at - no fixed tour times (no guided tours are offered on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays)
During the guided tours, you can marvel at the generators and the impressive turbines. This gives you an impression of the dimensions and the huge shaft that connects the turbine and generator.
The tour of the 69m high dam wall, which can hold 73 million m³ of water to generate environmentally friendly electricity for Lower Austria, is also impressive.
The guided tours are free of charge.
