Haidl-Keller
New worlds to experience
Description
The Haidl cellar in Thaya is a remarkable medieval earth cellar that was carved directly out of the rock. It is characterized by its impressive length of around 30 metres and has several branching tunnels. A special feature is that the main tunnel is now under water, which is due to a connection with the old well next to the Karner Chapel.
Nowadays, visitors have the unique opportunity to explore the Haidl cellar by boat. From the regular cellar of the Haidl Inn, a staircase leads down one level to the flooded area. A boat is provided to take you through the mystical, water-filled tunnels and experience the special atmosphere of this historic place.
Prior registration is required to visit the Haidl cellar. Anyone interested can either contact the Thaya municipal office on +43(0) 2842/52663 or send an email to gemeinde@thaya.gv.at. Alternatively, the Gasthaus Haidl is also available for inquiries on +43(0) 2842/52668 or by e-mail to pension@haidl.at.
Exploring the Haidl cellar by boat offers a unique experience that combines history and adventure in a special way.
