Description
In 1990, the former "k.k. privilegierten Modewarenfabrik Hackl&Söhne" was transformed into the Museum Alte Textilfabrik.
Where looms, printing tables and embroidery machines were in operation 100 years ago, visitors are now transported back to everyday working life and the world of life before and around 1900. The tour through the museum vividly brings to life the technology of the individual work processes, the interplay between home and factory work, the economic situation of the textile industry and the social contrasts between the world of the workers and the factory families.
Right next to the museum is the "Pagodenhaus", the only four-span hipped-roof house in Germany before they were even produced.
Special exhibition from July 04 to November 2, 2025:
Sons of Industry - Franz Kafka and Josef A. Schumpeter
In his groundbreaking economic theories,Josef (Šumpetr) A. Schumpeter takes a stand on issues that are once again very relevant today, such as the relationship between capitalism and democracy. He grew up in Třešt'and began his academic career as a professor in Graz
Franz Kafka was not very successful as an entrepreneur. However, as an employee of the "Workers' Accident Insurance Company", he gained deep insights into the everyday working life of factory workers during his visits to factories and repeatedly campaigned for an improvement in working conditions. Kafka has geographical connections to both Třešt' and the Waldviertel region, especially Gmünd.
Both come from textile entrepreneur families, both have a connection to the town of Trešť, both became world-famous but failed as entrepreneurs, ...
and they even have the year of their birth in common: 1883 - the height of the industrial revolution! With the themes of Capitalism & Democracy and Entrepreneurship & Workers, the exhibition attempts to establish a close link to TODAY.
In cooperation with our Czech partner, the Museum Třešť, a traveling exhibition is being created in addition to this wine tavern's special exhibition, which sheds light on these exciting people and their ideas and thoughts.
The Museum Alte Textilfabrik has been awarded the Austrian Museum Seal of Quality!
