Pfarr- und Wallfahrtskirche Neukirchen am Ostrong
Church
Description
Neukirchen lies on a hill visible from afar, east of the Ostrong and southwest of Pöggstall, at an altitude of 721 meters above sea level. Before 1121, Bishop Heinrich von Freising dedicated property to the church of Niwenchirc(hen), which he built on his own land and is said to have consecrated in honor of the "Assumption of the Virgin Mary" as early as 1117.
The atmospheric interior of the Gothic church with a Romanesque core is decorated with Gothic murals. Particularly noteworthy are the late Gothic altar shrine on a painted predella in the side chapel, late Gothic glass panes, vault ribs made of baked clay ("brick ribs") and the Gothic statue of the Mother of God with the Infant Jesus (around 1370) on the Baroque high altar.
