Pfarrkirche Furth bei Göttweig

Church

Description

The parish of Furth bei Göttweig lies at the foot of the Benedictine monastery of Göttweig, the "Austrian Montecassino". It is one of 28 incorporated parishes of the monastery. The parish only covers part of the municipal area of Furth, namely the cadastral districts of Furth, Palt and Aigen. The district of Oberfucha belongs to the collegiate parish of Brunnkirchen, the districts of Steinaweg and Kleinwien to the collegiate parish of Paudorf-Göttweig.

The church, sacristy and schoolhouse are integrated into the old building complex of the Göttweig Meierhof. The tower on the south side between the two street passages has a baroque onion dome, similar to the Göttweig monastery towers.
Various construction phases of the church can be traced. The core is formed by the presbytery, probably from the 16th century, with the two street entrances below.
