Schanzriedel

Scenic lookout

Description

Despite its importance as Luginsland and a former Celtic settlement, the Schanzriedel (rocky head, 508 m) is a surprisingly quiet, unpopular destination. The ascent is mainly preferred by lovers of dreamlike natural beauty. This vantage point can be reached via the Weitwandweg Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German) Danube trail, on a cart track to the left down into a saddle, over rock steps (secured with iron clamps, wire rope, ladder) it climbs steeply up to the summit of the Schanzriedel. Surefootedness is required in the summit area. After making a note in the summit book, you can enjoy the magnificent view of the Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German).
