Schloss Plankenberg

The historic Plankenberg Castle is located near Tulln. Over the centuries, it has served as a home to numerous famous and noble people, but was also an educational home for aristocrats and a rest home for workers. In the late 19th century, for example, it was leased by landscape painter Emil Jakob Schindler - and his family, including his daughter, later famous as Alma Mahler-Werfel. Today, the completely renovated castle is privately owned and inhabited. Below is the historic Meierhof, which is used as a shop.
