Schloss Schiltern
Castle
Description
From farmyard to castle
Who would have thought that a small farm would become a "castle of the future"? Founded in the 10th century by the Lords of Schiltarn, the farmstead was first used by various lords of Kronsegg. It was not until the 16th century that the medieval building was converted into a castle and became the new seat of power. After an eventful succession of owners, Count Aichelberg-Ruhmerskirch sold the castle to the municipality of Langenlois in 1929. Just one year later, it was acquired by the Order of the English Misses, who from then on ran various educational facilities for children here. This teaching activity is interrupted during the Second World War - the castle comes into the possession of the SA. In 1987, the Psychosoziale Zentrum Schiltern GmbH had the building complex renovated with the help of the state of Lower Austria and since then has offered the ideal environment for psychotherapeutic rehabilitation.
Cultural treasure of the region
Simple elegance under monument protection: Schiltern Castle owes its present form to Baron Christoph Leysser and represents a three-winged complex with four round towers. The coat of arms of the Aichelburg family from the 19th century is attached to the portal arch, with stucco garlands rising above it. The year 1636 on the sundial commemorates the completion of the building, and coats of arms of later castle lords can be found everywhere. It was not until the second half of the 20th century that frescoes in the style of Johann Leopold Daysinger from around 1760 were found in the chapel. Since the brief change of ownership to the municipality of Langenlois, the magnificent Marienbrunnen fountain and the 12 statues from the castle park can be found in the village's Holzplatz and Josefspark. The Bernalter Kasten, a cabinet with the coats of arms of Baron von Hackelberg-Landau and his wife Maria Magdalena von Weidling from 1680, can now be admired in the Langenlois local history museum.
Growing perspectives
The artistically designed therapy garden invites you to explore the festival circle of the four elements, the growth garden and the motor skills trail. In the baroque Noah's Ark castle garden, the old is combined with the new - almost lost cultivated plants are brought back to life and cultivated. The surrounding old walls and the garden pavilion create a very special ambience.
