Schloss Ulmerfeld

Castle

Description

Ulmerfeld Castle was mainly the administrative center of the manor, but the building also had a representative and military function. Ulmerfeld Castle was repeatedly extended and rebuilt throughout its history. With its Gothic castle chapel, columned hall and fortified tower, it is a jewel of medieval architecture.

The imposing castle tower, the construction of which began at the end of the 12th century, can be seen from afar. The Gothic castle chapel with its murals dates back to the 14th century. Concerts and theater performances take place in the romantic arcaded courtyard in summer. The west wing houses exhibitions and a historical collection of weapons from the armourer Ernst Urschitz.

On the river" exhibition - Ulmerfeld-Hausmening Castle

History meets emotion
In 2026, a new experiential space will be created in Ulmerfeld-Hausmening Castle, bringing together nature, culture and the psyche. The exhibition "By the river: the Ybbs - lifeline & source of strength" shows how much the landscape and living environment influence mental health. The course of the Ybbs runs through the rooms and symbolizes movement, change and mental strength. Workshops for schools are offered in an additional education room.

Planned opening: March 7, 2026
Opening hours: The exhibition can only be viewed during guided tours.
