Description
History of the town of Zwettl:
With a movable model of the town, the architectural development of Zwettl from the 12th century to around 1910 can be traced.
Crafts, trade, jurisdiction:
This section deals with the guilds and the market system, among other things. Numerous legal antiquities provide information about jurisdiction in the past.
Kuenringer:
The Kuenringers were the most important colonizers of the Zwettl area in the 11th/12th century. In 1138 they founded the Zwettl monastery, and they acted as town rulers until the 14th century.
Anton collection:
The Anton family collected and preserved historical cultural assets for three generations. This part of the museum is primarily dedicated to the theme of "collecting" and displays important art treasures. Numerous weapons, a war chest, documents and prints as well as an area about "Georg Ritter von Schönerer" document the history of the region.
"The Waldviertel - maps from eight centuries":
A map is a window into the times - true to this guiding principle, curator and book author Norbert Müllauer provides visitors with an interesting overview of various maps spanning a period from the 14th century to the present day through his accurate processing. The exhibition vividly explains why cartographic work from the end of the 18th century onwards achieved a unique quality that led Austrian map production to an absolute world standing that extends to the present day.
