Sitzenberg Castle Pond

Ponds, lakes and springs

Description

Sitzenberg-Reidling in the district of Tulln is a popular excursion destinations with historical and natural diversity.
Sitzenberg Castle, once owned by Styrian princes, is idyllically situated on the castle pond, which already existed before the 18th century. Today, the 12-hectare body of water, which is fed by several regional tributaries, is owned by the municipality and is part of a sustainable, near-natural pond management system.

Educational experience at the castle pond
The carp nature trail runs around the pond - a 45-minute, easy-to-walk circular route with informative boards about fishing and carp farming. This project was designed by students from HBLA Sitzenberg and is also aimed at children with fun quiz questions.

In addition, a biodiversity trail runs around the pond, providing information about the animal inhabitants of the area - especially water birds. Exciting information on the respective species can be called up at the touch of a button, making the walk an educational nature experience.

There is a playground, tennis courts and a small forest along the path.

Culture meets nature - all year round
The nature experience is complemented by seasonal events such as the pond festival in July, the Abfischfest in October and the Christmas fish market in December.
In winter, the pond is ideal for ice skating, weather permitting.

Sitzenbergcombines history, nature and regional culture to create a varied leisure experience for all ages.
