Tracht im Museum

Traditional costumes are the result of lengthy developments. A person's profession, status and wealth could be read from their costume. People have been revealing a lot about themselves in public for centuries, and not just since the days of the internet. Traditional costumes are proof that clothing was never just clothing, but always a means of communication. Those who were rich also showed this in the decoration of their clothing.

Over the course of time, a wide variety of traditional costumes developed, such as the official costume, guild costume, professional costume, religious costume, civic costume and folk costume.

My collection comprises almost 80 folk costumes from Austria, half of which are from Lower Austria. I also found a number of books, folders, stamps, games, .... and other special items.
I am fascinated and delighted by the materials and cuts as well as the craftsmanship required to make them.
Perhaps several people feel the same way and I cordially invite them to visit me in the museum.
